It is nourishing skillet mult-fruit-mix breakfast recipe, a twist on baked oatmeal made with rolled barley flakes, fresh figs, summer berries, maple syrup, and a kiss of cardamom. When topping with a dollop of yogurt and a drizzle of maple syrup, it can be a great treatment to satisfy your appetite. It is fresh, chewy and sweet, looks fabulously beautiful. NOURisHING SKILLET MULTI-FRUIT-MIX BREAKFAST RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup pecans (toasted, cooled, and broken into quarters)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter (or coconut oil)
1 cup rolled barley flakes (or oat, rye, wheat)
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups whole milk
3 tablespoons maple syrup, plus more for serving
1 large egg
1 cup quartered fresh figs
3/4 cup summer berries ( better choose raspberries and blackberries)
1 tablespoon sugar mixed with 1/8 teaspoon cardamom

Plain yogurt

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Position a rack in the center of the oven and then preheat the oven to 375.
  2. Melt the butter in aCast iron skilletand cover the skillet evenly. Then pour the melted butter into a small bowl and set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix the barley flakes together with the cardamom, baking powder, and salt. In a 2-cup measure, whisk together the milk, egg, and maple syrup until just combined.
  4. In the buttery skillet, spread half of the barley batter in the bottom of the pan. Put half the figs and berries on top, and then sprinkle with half of the pecans. Cover with the remaining barley mixture. Slowly pour the milk mixture over the barley, and place the remaining figs and berries. Sprinkle with the remaining pecans, drizzle the melted butter over the top, and sprinkle with the cardamom sugar.
  5. Transfer the pan to the oven with care for it is quite full and liquidy. Bake it in the oven for about 35 minutes or until puffed and set. Then remove from the oven.
  6. Let it cool for 5 minutes, then scoop out into bowls and serve with yogurt and maple syrup.

Pour in the milk mixture you made before. Finally pour in the melted butter and sprinkle sugar. This is the only step which sounds really difficult. However, I can assure you that it is actually super easy when you do in your kitchen if you have prepared all the ingredients. It can be a great treatment if you want to satisfy your appetite.
